Scottsdale Mint in collaboration with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) has initiated for the first time, a Gold and Silver Bullion and Commemorative Coin Programme titled - the "EC8". Scottsdale Mint har earlier brought out popular coins like the "Cayman Islands Marlin" and "Hokusal" and "The Great Wave").

The "EC8" Coin Programme will consist of four coins minted in 2018 on behalf of each of the eight Caribbean Island Members (CIM) that comprises the ECCB - Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent & the Grenadines.

Some of these nations have never had a gold or silver bullion coin issued for them, but the present series will have a unique design for each country being released/issued throughout the year.

The ECCB is the official issuer of the Eastern Caribbean Dollar - the currency of the "EC8 2018 Coin Programme".

All coins are legal tender in the territories of all 8 members that comprise the ECCB.

The fifth Coin issue features the "Spice Island of the Caribbean", Grenada:

The 2018 ECCB Grenada Coin depicts scuba divers exploring beautiful coral reefs and a centuries old shipwreck in the ocean depths off the coast of Grenada, known as the "Spice Isle of the Caribbean". It is renowned for not only its natural beauty, ship wrecks and its spices - such as nutmeg - but also its spectacular scuba diving.

Grenada boasts of some of the most gorgeous coral reefs in the Caribbean and a one of a kind underwater sculpture park. It is a scuba diver's paradise.

Grenada is a country in the West Indies, in the South-eastern Caribbean consisting of the island of Grenada and six smaller islands at the Southern end of the Grenadines Island chain. It is located North-west of Trinidad & Tobago, North-east of Venezuela and South-west of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Reverse on both the coins depicts the "Spice Island of the Caribbean", Grenada. The image depicts scuba divers exploring coral reefs and a centuries old ship-wreck in the ocean depths.

The inscriptions are - 'GRENADA" and "2018".


On the Obverse of the 10 Dollars Gold Bullion Coin is seen an image of Queen Elizabeth II facing right. The Queen's effigy is shown surrounded by a pair of  leaves. 

The peripheral inscriptions are - "EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK", "10 DOLLARS", "1 Oz .9999 GOLD", "QUEEN ELIZABETH II".

The specifications of the 10 Dollars Gold Bullion Coin are:

Theme: Deep Sea diving exploring coral reefs and old ship-wreck; Country of Origin: Grenada; Denominational value: 10 Dollars; Mint: Scottsdale; Diameter/Size: 38.6 mm; Weight: 31.1 grams; Metal Composition: .9999 Fineness Gold (Au); Mintage: Proof - 500 pieces, Brilliant Uncirculated - 2,500 pieces; Coin Quality: Proof with selective colouring and Brilliant Uncirculated; Peripheral Design: Both Obverse and Reverse rims feature wavy radial lines making the coin harder to duplicate and providing a measure of security.

The Proof Coins (both Gold & Silver issues) are housed in a capsule which is kept in a custom-made box and come with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).

The 2018 ECCB Montserrat Coin depicts the Montserratian Territorial Flag - a blue ensign with the British Union Flag in the canton and the Coat of Arms of Montserrat.

The Coat of Arms consist of a shield featuring a lady in green representing Erin - the female personification of Ireland holding a golden harpwith one arm, while embracing the Cross, symbolising Christianity, in the other arm.

Montserrat is located in the Leeward Islands of the Eastern Caribbean, which is part of the chain known as the Lesser Antilles, in the West Indies. It is a British Overseas Territory (BOT) whose nickname is - "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" is derived  from its resemblance to coastal Ireland and for its Irish ancestry (prisoners, indentured servants, forced labourers and loyal opposition soldiery) of many of its inhabitants who began arriving on the island around  1632.
