The “7 Arts Series” of coins brought out by Monnaie de Paris since 2013:

Every year, commencing from 2013, this popular Series brought out by Monnaie de Paris (the “Paris Mint”) introduces an art genre, an artist, and a particular place relevant within the Arts community.

The subjects chosen for the seven Art genres are Dance (2013), Music (2014), Architecture (2015), Cinema (2016), Sculpture (2017), Literature & Poetry (2018) and Painting (2019).

The series will conclude in 2019.

About François Auguste Rodin (12.11.1840- 17.11.1917):

He is considered to be the progenitor of modern sculpture. Although, he was schooled traditionally and took a craftsman-like approach to his work and strived to achieve academic recognition, he was never accepted into Paris’s foremost School of art.

Sculpturally, he possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, deep pocketed surface in clay.

Many of his notable sculptures were criticised during his lifetime as they clashed with predominant figurative sculpture traditions, in which works were decorative, formulaic or highly thematic.

Rodin’s most original work departed from traditional themes of mythology and allegory, modelled the human body with realism and celebrated individual character and physicality. Although sensitive to the criticism faced by his works, he continued to work in his own style. Successive works brought him increasing favour with the government and the Artistic community.

His reputation grew and he became the pre-eminent French sculptor of his time and a world-renowned artist.

Honouring Auguste Rodin in the Sculpture Genre (2017) under the “7 Arts Series”:

The Monnaie de Paris has brought out commemorative coins on the 100th Anniversary of the passing away of Auguste Rodin, which celebrate the works of the famous sculptor, whose creative powers both fascinated and scandalised the world, while leaving a legacy and a source of infinite inspiration for artist’s present day. These coins have been issued under its on-going series which is titled “The 7 Arts”. Born in 1840, Rodin is one of the major icons of the realistic style.

Monnaie de Paris has honoured the memory of this visionary genius by bringing out a set of three French Republic coins which include a 2 Euro circulating coin and two Silver coins (in the denominations of 10 Euros and 100 Euros.
