1231) Wildflowers , Aland: A new Series of Franking Labels issued by Aland Post: Date of issue: 03.02.2020:

A new Series of Franking Labels has been brought out by Aland Post featuring colourful Wildflowers, which replaces the current series of Woodpeckers on 03.02.2020.

The First Day Cover (FDC) shows a Vilda Blommer flowering stem at left. The four labels issued in the set are affixed at top right.

The Special Cancellation Handstamp shows a wildflower in the centre. The Cancellation is of Mariehamn Post Office and the Cancellation is dated - "03.02.2020".

The Franking Labels feature the wildflowers - Solomon's Seal, Wild Pansy, Brown Knapweed and Marsh Marigold that are found in abundance all over Aland.

Solomon's Seal (Polygonatum odoratum):

Solomon's Seal appears in early summer with white, vanilla scented tubular flowers with green tips. It grows around cairns, on wooded slopes and in swamps.

Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris):

Characteristic in May-June is also the Marsh Marigold with its glossy dark green leaves and bright yellow flowers. It demands a humid habitat.

Wild Pansy (Viola tricolour)

Wild Pansy flowers are seen throughout the growing season until September. The flowers  are usually multi-coloured but uni-coloured flowers in shades from white to purple may be seen. It is common along the road.

Brown Knapweed (Centaurea jacea):

In late summer, Brown Knapweed is seen from July to September. Growing up to 80.0 cm, the capitular flowers of this herb are purplish-red and a favourite among butterflies.
