In commemoration of the 50th edition "Festival di Tumba" (Carnival of Curacao), Cpost (Curacao Post) has brought out a set of six stamps on 20.01.2020.

The Festival di Tumba is one of the largest musical events in Curacao that takes place every year and is a highlight of the Curacao Carnival. This is the time when the whole of Curacao seems to participate in the music and festivities.

During the Festival di Tumba, numerous artists compete to win the coveted title of Tumba King or Queen. The winner's song becomes the official Tumba song or anthem for that year's Carnival. The qualifying rounds serve to select the finalists who then compete in the final round.

The music of Curacao:

The music of Curacao is known, inter alia, for typical waltzes, danzas, mazurkas, pasillos and Tumba, which is named after the Conqa drums that accompany it.

Tumba is the name of an African-derived rhythm. Jan Gerard Palm (1831-1906), was the first composer to wrote music for the lyrics of Tumba. There are traditional lyrics associated with different Tumba songs, but they are sometimes scandalousand accusatory, and not always sung. Tumba is especially popular, particularly during the Carnival period. Tumba is now a popular part of the Carnival Road March.
