The Banca Nationala a' Romaniei has brought out a Gold Collector Coin in its on-going Coin Series titled "History of Gold Coin Series" on 02.03.2020, which focusses on various artefacts and artisan pieces highlighting Romanian culture and identity. The latest coin focusses on ancient gold and silver finds during a time when the region was part of the Roman Empire's most far-flung outreaches/outposts in the Balkans.

The artefacts featured on the coin's design are on items unearthed from Moesia - an ancient region which became a Roman Province.

Situated in the Balkans, South of the Danube River, Moesia included present-day Romanian Dobrudja, among other vast areas including Central Serbia and Southern Ukraine. Today, the area includes the city of Constanta, which is also the name of the area's administrative county.

Historically known as "Tomis", it is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Romania, founded around 600 BC. The area is also home to an ancient ruin known as Carsium (or the "Fortress of Harsova"), a tower built when Constanta was part of the Roman province of Moesia in the first Century AD.

The Commemorative Gold Coin:

The Monetaria Statului (Romanian State Mint), mints the coins at their facilities in Bucharest on behalf of the National Bank of Romania.

On the Obverse of the 10 Lei Gold Coin are seen gold jewels from the finds of late Roman Gold and Silver artefacts discovered in Carsium - present day Harsova.

The inscriptions on this face are "ISTORIA. AURULUI - ORFEVRARIE ROMANA TARZIE. CARSIUM." (on the outer periphery).

On the Reverse of the 10 Lei Gold Coin is seen a Gold fibula and a Gold Ring from the stock of late Roman Gold and Silver artefacts discovered in Carsium (Harsova).

The name of the issuing country "ROMANIA" is placed on the upper periphery, while at centre right is the denominational value of the coin - "10 LEI" and the year of issue - "2020".

The Romanian Coat of Arms is placed on the Roman ring depicted.
