2150) Twenty Rupees Coin (₹20 coin), India : Date of first issue: 2020:

2150) Twenty Rupees Coin (₹20 coin) , India: Date of  first issue: 2020:

The first Rupees Twenty (₹20 coin) Coin has been contributed for my collection by Vivek at the nearby Patanjali Provision store. Vivek has received only two ₹20 coins of this denomination so far from general circulation, including this one.

About the new ₹20 coin:

The ₹20 coin is the highest-denomination circulation coin minted in India since the Central Government of India's announcement of the introduction of this denomination in 2019.

The release of the coin was scheduled for March 2020, but  its release into general circulation got delayed because of the Wuhan Virus ( also known as "COVID-19") lockdown and this denomination's release was shifted to May 2020. The 20 rupee banknotes will continue to be legal tender and circulate alongside the ₹20 coin.

The Coin was designed with the coordination of students of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

The Reverse face of the ₹20 coin bears the denominational value “20” and the rupee symbol placed above the denominational value.

The design of grains is flanked on the left periphery of the coin to depict the agricultural aspect of India.

The top right and bottom right peripheries bears the word Rs 20 - "Bees Rupiye" (in Hindi)and “TWENTY RUPEES” (in English).

The year of minting in international numerals is depicted at centre of the left periphery of the coin "2020". This coin bears the "Diamond" mint mark of the Mumbai Mint, below the year of issue.

On the Obverse of the ₹20 coin is depicted the Ashok Pillar emblem of the Government of India (taken from the Pillar edicts of Samrat Ashok, a legendary Emperor of Ancient India), with the legend “Satyamev Jayate” inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “Bharat” in Hindi and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English.

The specifications of the Indian 20-rupee Coin are:

Mass/Weight: 8.54 grams; Diameter/Size: 27.00 mm; Edge: 12-edged polygon ("dodecagon"); Metal Composition: Outer ring – Nickel Silver (65% Copper (Cu), 15% Zinc (Zn) and 20% Nickel (Ni),  Center-piece – Nickel-brass (75% Copper (Cu), 20% Zinc (Zn) and 5% Nickel (Ni); Years of minting: Authorised from 2019 onwards (first minting in 2020).

Posted on 18.03.2023:

I collected a few Rs.20/- coins from Mega Mart where we collect our provisions from.

Most of the Coins were minted in 2020, but I spotted that this one was minted in 2021:

The design on the Reverse of the Rs.20/- Coin is identical to the Rs.20/- Coin issued in 2020.

The year of minting in international numerals is depicted at centre of the left periphery of the coin "2021". This coin bears the "Diamond" mint mark of the Mumbai Mint, below the year of issue.
