Magyar Posta (Hungarian Post) has commemorated the 150th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hungarian Meteorological Service by issuing a Stamp.

In Hungary observations regarding the weather date back to the 11th Century.

From 1540 onwards regular references of various kinds of climatic developments can be found.

On 06.04.1868, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences debated a proposal to establish an independent Hungarian Earth Magnetism Institute.

On 08.04.1870, Francis Joseph countersigned the deed of foundation of the Royal Hungarian Central Institute for Meteorology and Earth Magnetism, which was published in the Budapest Gazette on 03.05.1870, in the same year.

Guido Schenzl became the first director, whose main duties included organising meteorological data and information, which has increasingly become a body providing information.

The Commemorative Stamp of HUF 515 shows an imaginary Meteorological Map of Hungary.

On the First Day Cover (FDC), the Headquarters of the Hungarian Meteorological Service (HMS) is seen at left together with the  Jubilee logo of the Hungarian Meteorological Service.
