The "Latvijas Banka" (Bank of Latvia) has issued on 11.12.2020, a new eye-catching 5 Euro Silver Collector Coin dedicated to the topical theme of Personal Freedom:
The Reverse and Obverse of the 5 Euro Silver Coin presented in a framed background of pyramidical shapes
As part of the unique design, the faces or surfaces of the hexagonal pyramids, are covered by frosting of different intensity, black colour print, gold plating, or mirror surface.
The new coins are the result of an open call from the Bank of Latvia to aspiring Latvian artists to submit their ideas on the topic. The eye-catching geometrical design represents the debut work of Beate Šņuka, a young and promising designer in coin art.
In 2019, the "Latvijas Banka" invited students representing various artistic sectors to a discussion on the contemporary meaning of personal freedom.
The artist of this coin dedicated her design to a philosophical theme and chose to symbolically feature the idea that the limits of our freedom are where another individual’s rights begin.
Šņuka graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven, and her works have been showcased in various international exhibitions.

The Concept:
The Silver collector coin titled “Personal Freedom” is a particularly relevant and topical theme in our contemporary world, especially when the development of technologies allows everyone to freely express themselves on any issue whatsoever.
This access enables all of us to think of the limits of our free will and the importance of respecting actions and opinions of others.
Our behaviour in the virtual world affects society to the same extent as the society influences us. We can continue to enjoy the freedoms legally guaranteed to all of us as long as we respect the social norms set by society and the society respects the independence of each and every one.
Multi-faceted clusters, each representing a unique set of personality traits manifested in their actions, thinking, and emotional reactions which constitute the society where each and every person has his/her rights and duties, understanding of the social norms, and personal freedom.
The Commemorative Coin:
The coins have been minted by the Mint of Poland at their facilities in Warsaw, on behalf of the Bank of Latvia.
The Obverse of the 5 Euro Silver Proof Coin, with applied colour, includes a low regular hexagonal pyramid featured at the bottom left, with its faces covered by frosting of different intensity, black colour print, gold plating, or mirror surface.
The inscriptions on this face are - " 5 EURO", "LATVIJA", and "2020" all placed in a semi-circle to the right along the upper periphery.
The Reverse of the 5 Euro Silver Coin with applied colour, is filled with a mosaic of low regular hexagonal pyramids, with their faces covered by frosting of different intensity, black colour print, gold plating, or mirror surface.
The flat edge inscription includes incused lettering which reads "LATVIJAS BANKA" and is separated by rhombic dots.
