The Header/Banner showcases the Obverses and Reverses of the Gold and Silver variants of the 2024 Panda Coin design against a background representation of the mountainous habitat in which the Pandas live.
The Bank of China (BOC) has issued the sixth design in the Coin Series titled "Ten Years of Love", which is part of an ongoing series of Panda designs dwelling on the story of a panda navigating the world around him from cub to adult.
The Series began in 2019 with new editions of the Panda Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins, the first design and has continued with the theme of love every year since then. The series is scheduled to conclude with the tenth and last design in 2028.
About the Panda:
The Giant Panda ("Ailuropoda melanoleuca"), or a "Panda Bear" or "Panda", is a bear species characterised by its bold black-and-white coat and rotund body.
The name "Giant Panda" is sometimes used to distinguish it from the Red Panda.
Though it belongs to the order Carnivora, the giant panda is a folivore, with bamboo shoots and leaves making up more than 99% of its diet. Giant pandas in the wild occasionally eat other grasses, wild tubers, or even meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion.
In captivity, they may be fed honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, or bananas along with specially prepared food.
The Coins:
The Coin Collection for 2024 includes eight Panda bullion quality Gold, Platinum, and Silver commemorative coins ranging in weights from 30.00 grams to 1.00 gram (Gold), 30 grams and 3.00 grams (Platinum), and 30.00 grams (Silver).
The Commemorative Coin range is struck to Proof quality and includes a selective colour tinting application enhancing the design. They include six weights ranging from one kilogram to 50 grams (gold), one kilogram and 150 grams (silver).
Face values range from 10,000 yuan (Gold one kilogram) down to 10 yuan (silver 30.00 grams).
The 2024-dated collections of bullion and commemorative coins have been minted by the Shenyang Mint Company Ltd., the Shanghai Mint Company Ltd., and Shenzhen Guobao Mint Company Ltd. on behalf of the Bank of China.
The Reverses of the Gold, Silver and Platinum Bullion Coins depict both a seated mother and a baby Giant Panda shown in their own typical environment/habitat, with plants and large rocks in the background.
Each coin includes its respective weight and metal content placed on the upper left periphery with the denomination positioned to the lower left.
The Obverses of the Gold, Silver and Platinum Bullion Coins features the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, with the name of the country 中 华 人 民 共 和 国 (“Republic of China”) placed above the temple along the upper edge. The year of issue "2024" is shown below.
