The Royal Canadian Mint has issued its third coin in the 3-Coin Series titled "Canadian Coasts" which feature references from all three of Canada's coastal lines and includes designs which represent the unique cultural character, history and beauty of each coast - Pacific, Atlantic and The Arctic.
Whether in the East or the West, or the "True North strong and free", there is something magical about Canada's shores - from the polar regions to the often calm South-west jet stream of the Pacific coast, to the unpredictable, but naturally pristine Atlantic shores.
Representing the land, sea and sky, the highly symbolic images included in the designs of these three coins are arranged in a concentric pattern that also resembles the points of a compass. The design is the same even when the coin is turned.

More than half of the world's supply of lobster comes from Canada, which is one of the most valuable seafood exports. Some of the largest populations of this brown-coloured nocturnal crustacean are found in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and off the coast of Nova Scotia.
Between May and September, the waters off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador play an important role as part of the major feeding grounds for the Western North Atlantic population of humpback whales.
Over15 species of cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) can be found in the eastern waters of the Atlantic, which makes the Atlantic a popular destination for whale and dolphin watching.
Canada's first light-house was completed in 1734 in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia. The present light-house is in its fourth incarnation. The oldest surviving light-house, which is also the oldest working lighthouse in North America - the Sambro Island Lighthouse (built in 1758) at the entrance of Halifax Harbour is depicted on this coin.

The sun rises over the East Coast, where the craggy rocks symbolize the rugged coastline and its many sheltered coves.
From its central position, the gold-plated sun casts a warm morning light that illuminates Canada's oldest operational lighthouse - the Sambro Island Lighthouse - one of many such landmarks that embody the region's history and spirit.
An impressively sized marine mammal - the humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) symbolises the diverse marine life found in the waters of the North Atlantic and the Gulf os St. Lawrence, where whale-watching has become a popular tourist pastime.
Anchoring the corners of the design is the lobster (Homarus americanus), an icon of the Atlantic fishing culture and an economic power-house. Gold plating also highlights the rim that frames the Reverse, to reinforce the idea that everything in nature is beautifully inter-connected.

The Obverse face features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The peripheral inscriptions are - "ELIZABETH II. CANADA. 2018. D.G.REGINA. 3 DOLLARS".
