The Royal Canadian Mint has launched a new Series of Coins which recreate some of the country's most memorable Stamps of the early 20th Century relating to National Anniversaries or Services.

The rectangular-shaped coins will be issued under a three-coin series, which distinctly recreate the look of real postage stamps. These are Canada's first Stamp shaped coins.

Each of the coin Reverse designs is a finely engraved, coloured one, which is every bit as detailed as the original stamp issues. The coins are a fitting tribute to Canada's Postal and Philatelic history.

The first of these stamp-shaped coins is a three-cent Stamp, which features a design on the Reverse which is a detailed reproduction of a Canadian Postal stamp which was issued on 29.06.1927, that commemorated Canada's Diamond Jubilee.

This Stamp was titled "Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings", with the original design by Herman Herbert Schwartz and engraved by Harold Osborn and features a front view of the Peace tower and Centre Block building on Parliament Hill, in Ottawa.

The original Stamp was printed using the traditional intaglio (raised) or engraved line process, as evidenced by the horizontal lines recreated on the Reverse.

On the Reverse of the 20 Canadian Dollars Stamp shaped rectangular coin, aside from the edges on the coin, which replicates the perforations seen on most stamps, this face of the coin includes a  faithful application of modern colour that recreates the rich red hue of the original stamp issue.

The double dates "1867" and "1927" and the word "CONFEDERATION", reflect the 60th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.

Like the 1927 postage stamp, the Reverse includes ornamental flourishes and the name of the country "CANADA" on a scroll banner, along with "POSTES", "POST" and the face value of the coin, represented by the numeral "3" and the word "CENTS".

The Obverse of the 20 Canadian Dollars Stamp shaped rectangular coin shows an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right.

The peripheral inscriptions are - "ELIZABETH II. 2018.D.G.REGINA.20 DOLLARS".

The specifications of the coin are:
Denomination: $20; Metal Composition: .999 Silver (Ag); Weight: 31.8 grams; Diameter/Size: 55.0 mm x 30.0 mm; Coin Quality: Proof with applied colour; Mint: Royal Canadian Mint; Mintage (Maximum): 5,000 pieces.
Each coin is encapsulated to accommodate its rectangular shape and is presented in a custom-branded Royal Canadian Mint case, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity (COA).

The remaining two coins are - Cartier Quebec 1535 (to be released in October 2018) and Coat of Arms and Flags Special Delivery (to be released in December 2018).
