2082) "World Food Day - 2021", Bosnia & Herzegovina (HP Mostar): HP Mostar has issued a set of two Stamps in the denominations of 1.10 BAM celebrating "Collard (raštika)" a local popular dish in Herzegovina: Date of Stamps issue: 16.10.2021:

World Food Day (WFD) was established by FAO's Member Countries at the Organization's 20th General Conference in November 1979.

WFD is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on 16 October to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. 

The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. 

WFP received the Nobel Prize in Peace for 2020 for their efforts to combat hunger, contribute to peace in conflict areas, and for playing a leading role in stopping the use of hunger in the form of a weapon for war and conflict.

Since 1981, a different theme is set as the objective/focus of the WFP.

In 2021 the theme is - "Safe Food now for a Healthy Tomorrow"

Bosnia & Herzegovina now has three Posts:

Bosnia and Herzegovina Post (BH Posta, Sarejevo), Croatian Posts (HP Mostar, Mostar) and Serbian Posts (Srpske Poste, Banja Luka). This Stamp set has been issued by HP Mostar

About World Food Day 2021 - "Collard" (raštika)" ("Brassica oleracea"), Bosnia & Herzegovina (HP Mostar):

"Collard (raštika)" ("Brassica oleracea") is a biennial herbaceous plant with a well-developed spindle root. 

The stem is spirally wrapped in leaves that form a rosette at the top. Collard is cultivated for its leaves that are harvested throughout the year.

It is highly valued in Herzegovina and has been cultivated since ancient times due to its modest cultivation requirements. 

It was a valuable food in the battle against famine and its seeds were carefully preserved. It withstands high summer temperatures and drought, as well as snow and low temperatures in winter, and is rich in vitamins and minerals.

It is traditionally prepared in Herzegovina as a stew with dried meat. 

A competition is held every year in Grude for the preparation of collard dishes, (the traditional manifestation “Raštikijada”) which shows how popular collard is in Herzegovina.
