1287) World Water Day (WWD), Bosnia and Herzgovina: A set of two Stamps featuring the beautiful Ramsko Jezero Lake issued on 23.03.2020:
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has declared 22nd March every year as "World Water Day", with a view to draw attention to problems/issues related to water and water resources.
A higher standard of living has led to an increase in water consumption and an increase in waste-water discharged into nature. Bosnia and Herzgovina have significant reserves of water resources.
Ramsko jezero Lake:
The beautiful Ramsko jezero lake is situated in the North of Herzgovina, on the territory of the municipality of Prozor-Rama.
In 1968, this artificial reservoir lake was created and is surrounded by the mountain ranges - Radusa, Makjen, Ljubusa and Vran.
The lake has a surface area of 1,500 ha, with a maximum length of 12.0 kilometres, a maximum depth of 95.0 metres and with water oscillations of up to 55.0 metres.
The water coming into the lake is extremely clean and of excellent quality. The main water course is the Rama River, which springs from two strong sources, a summer source that is constantly active and a winter source that occurs during heavy rainfall and snowmelt. The Rama River receives its main water from its right inflows - Buk and Krupic and its left inflows - Brodac, Slatina and Sopot.
In addition, there are also several smaller sources, of which some dry up during the summer. The Ramsko jezero lake ranks as one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe, particularly its islands and peninsulas - the most famous of which is the Scit peninsula, with the Franciscan monastery - Rama-Scit.
