Northern Lights on Parliament Hill is a magical sound and light show in Ottawa that is very popular with the spectators every year and over one million visitors have seen the show since its inception in 2015.
The imagery projected onto the Peace Tower in Ottawa is a dream-like voyage through the wonders of Canadian culture and history.
The Royal Canadian Mint has released a new Silver Proof quality coin which incorporates new technology that depicts/reveals the Northern Lights show on Parliament Hill.
With impressive technology, a total of 17 separate projectors work together to form a single image on the front façade of Centre Block, creating a high-definition visual and sound experience which turns Parliament Hill into a screen of over 143 metres (or 470.0 feet) long and 30 stories high.
The lighting effects are echoed throughout the front lawn of Parliament Hill using an audio system custom-built for the show. The elaborate sound track is mixed using a 7.1 surround sound system, which is then played through the 18 speakers set up in 8 different locations around the site.
Aside from lights and sound, there is also a video component to the spectacle, requiring very specialised software and a robust control system. The image projected on the Centre Block is made up of 35 million pixels. By contrast, a high definition television screen can only display just over 2 million pixels at a time.

The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) has created this fascinating coin which features the unique Colour Reveal technology - a RCM first. Using black light to highlight the coin, the Peace Tower glows with Northern Lights in the dark, just like Parliament Hill at night. The technology ignites a "light show" on the coin itself.
While the artistry of the coin can be appreciated in any light, viewing it under a black light (included) activates the special technology.
The Reverse of the Silver 20 Dollars Coin shows the Parliament Hill Peace Tower, which glows with Northern Lights in the dark when a black light is used.
The coins colours are based on the projections on the Peace Tower in the final section of the Northern Lights show.
Above the Tower and to the left is inscribed the name of the issuing country - "CANADA" - and to the right is the denomination of the coin - " 20 DOLLARS".
The Obverse of the Silver 20 Dollars Coin shows an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II , with the peripheral inscriptions - "ELIZABETH II. D.G. REGINA" (meaning "Elizabeth II, By the Grace of God, Queen") and the year of issue "2019".

ReplyDeleteRajeev Prasad This is indeed a very popular Light & Show on Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Canada going on since 2015, Rambhau. On the blog post the coin's light changes from black to yellow, as in the actual show's ending three times and then turns still. But wherever a video media is placed, it continuously goes on changing from black to light, as on my Twitter page. Very interesting coins are now being minted by the leading mints the world over. As I receive email from several mints and newsletters, both on coins and stamps I find that there is a lot of advancement in coin minting technologies and a lot of interesting innovations are being made for collectors.
