The Royal Canadian Mint has issued Double Crown sized Coin which replicates one of Canada's most iconic landmarks - the Centennial Flame - which is located on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
The Centennial Flame was inaugurated on 31.12.1966, when the flame was first lit in the 12-sided monument. The Centennial Flame which was originally intended to be a temporary installation for the Canadian Centennial celebrations in 1967.
On popular demand, the Centennial Flame Monument became a permanent feature on the grounds of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa.
The flame and the fountain are fueled by natural gas and the heat from the flame keeps the waters flowing even on the coldest of winter days. The "eternal flame", though has not always burned, as it has been extinguished several times, chiefly because of maintenance work.
In 2017, the 12-sided fountain was modernised, when it became a 13-sided one, with the addition of a new panel representing Nunavat, which entered the Confederation on 01.04.1999 - some three decades after the fountain was originally built.
Visitors, often make a wish and throw a coin into the fountain for luck. These coins have helped fund disability research, as the coins tossed into the fountain are regularly collected and put towards the Annual Centennial Flame Research Award.

The ultra-high relief of this coin has added depth on this 13-sided (tridecagon) Coin-sized replica of the Centennial Flame Monument on Parliament Hill. The realistic rendering was made possible by a dramatic variation in relief height - the deep sunk basin gives this coin a minimum thickness of 1.51 mm, which picks up to 5.05 mm, when measured from the tip of the engraved flame. An antique finish gives this coin a weathered appearance - like the granite and bronze fountain itself.
The Reverse of the Double Crown Sized 50 Dollar Coin includes an impressive engraved flame replica of the Centennial Flame Monument, which tops this coin design. The 13-sided fountain consists of one panel for every Canadian province and territory, which are represented by their armorial bearings.
On the outer periphery of this face/edge of the fountain, the date of entry of each province or territory into Canada's Confederation are mentioned. The Confederation was officially set up in 1867.
An antique finish adds a weathered look that emphasises the deep sunken relief.
The Obverse of the Double Crown Sized 50 Dollar Coin depicts an effigy of Elizabeth II facing right. The peripheral inscriptions are - ELIZABETH II. CANADA. 2019.D.G.REGINA".
