A brief about Mahatma Gandhi:

"Every revolution begins with a single act of defiance". Those words mark the legacy of one of the greatest political and spiritual leaders of modern history.

Mahatma Gandhi or just Gandhi, as most of the world has come to know him, was an inspiration for so many around the world, and through his actions, proved that one person can make his mark through non-violent means.

Mahatma Gandhi was the key figure of India's Freedom fight from British Raj. His Quit India Movement (1942) relied exclusively on civil disobedience in order to mobilise public opinion and to force the British government to give India Independence in 1947. The British administration however, played a final "trick" on the Indian nation in their age old policy of "Divide and Rule". They partitioned India into Muslim Pakistan and Hindu India - this decision was made by Nehru and Jinnah in Shimla, much against the explicit will of Gandhi, although he supported the partition of India once the decision had been made.

. It is a tragedy that, while adherents of both religions fought shoulder to shoulder with one another for the Freedom Fight - this Partition has resulted in several bloody conflicts and the divide and mistrust has become much wider than ever before, with Pakistan forcibly occupying a part of Kashmir, which had aligned with the Indian nation.

Mahatma Gandhi is remembered as the "Father of the Indian Nation". Many people still regard him as a symbol of change that is possible without using force - whether it was Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela - many important historical figures referred to Mahatma Gandhi as their great political role model.

The Commemorative Coin:

The coins have been minted by Coin Invest Trust (CIT) at their facilities in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, on behalf of the Bank of Mongolia.

This coin in two variants pays a tribute to his legacy and features an image of Mahatma Gandhi that is instantly recognisable.

Mahatma Gandhi's portrait is struck in Smartminting high-relief technology. The amount of detail and sculpture in the portrait is unparalleled and also includes selective colouring. This technique offers facial features which bring the coin's designs to life.

The peripheral inscriptions are a stylised - "MAHATMA GANDHI" (written both in English and Mongolian) and the year of issue "2020".

The Obverse of the 1000 Togrog Silver Proof Coin, includes the Emblem/Insignia of the Bank of Mongolia in the centre, together with the denomination of the coin "1000 Torpor" (meaning "1000 Togrog") and Mongolian lettering placed on both sides of the Insignia in a vertical  direction.
