The Bank of Mongolia has released its Gold and Silver Proof coins, which are part of its on-going Series titled - 'Revolutionaries" - which features political figures who impacted, for better or for worse - the world around them and left their impact for generations of admirers, which still remember them.

These Gold & Silver Coins include - Chinggis Khaan (2014), Fidel Castro (2017), Che Guevara (2018), Krl Marx (2019) and the 2020 edition is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi - the great pioneer on "non-violent resistance - Satyagrah".

His Quit India Movement (1942) relied exclusively on civil disobedience in order to mobilise public opinion and to force the British government to give India Independence in 1947. The British administration however, played a final "trick" on the Indian nation in their age old policy of "Divide and Rule". They partitioned India into Muslim Pakistan and Hindu India - this decision was made by Nehru and Jinnah in Shimla, much against the explicit will of Gandhi, although he supported the partition of India once the decision had been made.

It is a tragedy that, while adherents of both religions fought shoulder to shoulder with one another for the Freedom Fight - this Partition has resulted in several bloody conflicts and the divide and mistrust has become much wider than ever before, with Pakistan forcibly occupying a part of Kashmir, which had aligned with the Indian nation.
Mahatma Gandhi is remembered as the "Father of the Indian Nation". Many people still regard him as a symbol of change that is possible without using force - whether it was Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela - many important historical figures referred to Mahatma Gandhi as their great political role model.

The Reverse of the 1000 Togrog Silver Proof Coin depicts a front facing portrait of Mahatma Gandhi from his last years. He is shown wearing traditional Indian clothing - a Khadi Kurta - the wearing of Khadi itself is a non-violent form of protest, since Mahatma Gandhi encouraged his followers to make their own clothes from indigenously grown cotton, rather than buying English cotton-made and manufactured products.
