The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe is releasing two new Banknotes in the denominations of ZWL$10 (05/2020) and ZWL$20 (first week of 06/2020).
While updated with current security features, the Fronts of both Banknotes have the standard designs used on all Zimbabwean currency since the 1980s up to and including the legendary worthless $100 trillion denomination - a vignette of the Chiremba Balancing Rocks in Epworth, about 8 kilometres from Harare.

The new ZWL$10 and ZWL$20 denominations will join the already circulating smaller denomination - ZWL$2 and ZWL$5, which were introduced late last year (2019) and replaced the "Bond Notes" of the same design at an equal exchange value.
A few years ago (2015), as Zimbabwe experienced one of the highest levels of inflation ever recorded, the country finally abandoned its national currency.
A year later, they introduced structure of payments based on a basket of foreign currencies, but predominantly based on the US dollar.
To alleviate the chronic shortage of currency in circulation and to prop up a fragile economy, a system of Bond Notes and Coins was gradually introduced in 02/2019 - and with immediate effect, the Reserve Bank declared that Bond Notes and all electronic payments would be merged into a new currency with they referred to as the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Dollar.
Even with the introduction of this "standalone" currency in 11/2019, high levels of inflation continue to dog the country.
The security features in both denominations include:
- Tactile Print: This tactile print feature identifies the denomination in a series of lines added to aid the visually impaired persons.
- Latent Image: The numeral of the Banknotes value is seen when the Banknote is tilted under a light source.
- Optically Variable Ink Application: The Banknote's value is shown with a colour shifting process and changes from magenta to green on the ZWL$10 Banknote and green to azure on the ZWL$20 Banknote.
- Holographic Security Thread: This vertical strip appears segmented and solid when held up to a light source and includes see-thru micro-lettering of RBZ 10 and RBZ 20.
- Aligned Print Application: A perfect registry of Zimbabwe's National Bird is printed on both the Front and Back. When the Banknote is held up to a light source, the bird is recognised in perfect register.
The new Banknotes:
The Front of the ZWL$10 Banknote shows a vignette of the Chiremba Balancing Rocks in Epworth, about 8 kilometres from Harare.
The Back of the ZWL$10 Banknote shows a quartet of water buffaloes and Harare's 20-storey Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Tower.
The colour of this Banknote is orange.

The Back of the ZWL$20 Banknote depicts an elephant in front of a rendition of Victoria Falls.
