After the Blenchi (hummingbird - 2020), Prikichi (brown-throated parakeet - 2017), Soldachi (hermit crab - 2018) and Turtuga (green sea turtle - 2019), and the Yuwana (also known as the Green Iguana - 2021), the next commemorative coin in the Aruban series features - the "Warawara" bird 2022).
The Warawara:
This Aruban commemorative coin of 2022 features the "Warawara", a bird of prey that can be spotted on the island of Aruba.
The Warawara is a big, brown-black bird with long legs. Especially the bird’s beak is quite special: it’s curved and has a pointed, hook-shaped curved tip.
A reclusive bird, the Warawara is mostly spotted in the area of Bandabou. They can also be found in Aruba and Bonaire and are also residents of regions in the Caribbean, northern South America, most of Central America and the southernmost parts of the United States, where they are known as the "northern crested caracara" (carancho norteño in Spanish).
They are actually only called Warawara in Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire.
They are mostly scavengers that feed on the decaying flesh of dead animals but they also hunt live prey. These are usually immobile, injured, incapacitated or young. Their prey includes snakes, lizards, small turtles, fish, crabs, insects and young birds (small chicks in particular).
They are one of the few birds of prey who also hunt for their food on the ground. It mainly also eats the carcasses of wild goats, but it also feeds on mice.
This bird of prey feels most at home above the hills, the ocean or the Aruban lowlands. If danger is close, the bird hides under the bushes.
It is becoming more and more common in Aruba, especially in Arikok National Park.
The special Aruban bird is now immortalised on this coloured commemorative coin.
The Coin:
On the Reverse of the 5 Florin Silver Prooflike commemorative coin issued in 2021 is depicted the green iguana, or “Warawara” in Papiamento in its natural habitat.
The inscriptions are - "ARUBA" (the country name) "WARAWARA" (on the lower periphery).

On the Obverse of the 5 Florin Silver Prooflike commemorative coin is depicted the Coat of Arms/Emblem of Aruba.
The peripheral inscriptions on the right hand side are - "ARUBA. 2021. 5 FLORIN".
