1807) Hummingbird (Blenchi)-2020, Aruba: A 5 Florin Silver Proof Coin minted by the Royal Dutch Mint, Vienna: Date/Year of Coin issue: 2020:
The Aruban commemorative coin of the year 2020 is adorned by a cheerfully coloured hummingbird.
This small bird is also known as "Blenchi" papiamento. The hummingbird may be a bird, but it is often mistaken by visitors to the island for a bumblebee or other insect.
Because of the fast wing stroke of about 80 beats per minute, the bird makes a buzzing sound. The small bird can usually be found near flowers. With its pointed beak, the hummingbird guzzles nectar from the calyles: this is its main food source.
Thanks to its fast wing stroke and small size (the hummingbird is the smallest bird species in the world!) it can take the perfect position for this. There are more than 300 species of hummingbirds in the world, some of which are found in Aruba.
After the Prikichi-2017 (Corn Parakeet), Soldachi-2018 (Hermit Crab) and the Turtuga-2019 (Turtle), the Blenchi is the fence closer of this Aruban commemorative coin series.
The Coin:
The Reverse of the 5 Aruban Silver Florin Coin depicts a Humming Bird sipping nectar from a flower, under a blue sky with partial white clouds and in a flower garden. The inscriptions are: "Aruba" (on the upper periphery) and "Blenchi" on the lower periphery:-
The Obverse of the 5 Aruban Silver Florin Coin depicts the Coat of Arms of Aruba in the centre. In the right half are inscribed: "ARUBA 2020" and "5 FLORIN".
