About "Children’s Philately - Armenian Cartoons"

On 21.04.2021, Haypost CJSC (Armenian Post) has put into circulation a postage stamp dedicated to the theme "Children’s Philately. Armenian Cartoons".

The postage stamp depicts a fragment from the Armenian cartoon "Kikos".

"Kikos" (Կիկոս) is a 1979 Armenian animation film directed by Robert Sahakyants based on the story by Hovhannes Tumanyan.

The theme of Kikos is based on an Armenian Fairy Tale

The story follows a family on a picnic. The father sends the youngest daughter off to fetch water at a near by well. While there she imagines having a son of her own, called Kikos, and sending him off to get water at the well. However, her imagination gets carried away and she imagines Kikos falling down the well and drowning.

When she does not return with the water the father sends the second eldest daughter to go see why the youngest had not returned yet.

She arrives to see her younger sister crying, who then tells her that her nephew Kikos has drowned in the well. They become grief stricken and when the eldest sister comes to retrieve them, the second eldest sister tells the eldest of what has happened to Kikos.

However she completely changes the story as she does so. This process repeats itself, when the grandmother and father arrive at the well.

The story gets altered more drastically with each person who tells it.

When the father hears the story he calls them all fools, because they were grieving over a person who doesn't exist.
