1334) "Ancient Postal Routes, Santa Claus", Finland: A EUROPA Stamp released by "Posti" (Finland Post): Date of Stamp release: 06.05.2020:

On 06.05.2020, "Posti" (Finland Post) has brought out a postage stamp on "Ancient Postal Routes" - the theme for EUROPA Stamps this year.

Posti has taken Santa Claus as the subject of this stamp, as Santa travels worldwide delivering items. Santa Claus delivers items from the Korvatunturi, which fall to the right addresses around the world. (Korvatunturi is a fell in Lapland on the border between Finland and Russia. Its name literally means "Ear Fell" in Finnish due to its unique shape. Korvatunturi is best known as the home of Father Christmas (or "Joulupukki" in Finnish). According to Finnish Folklore, this land is the location of Santa's secret workshop, where toys, trinkets and gifts are made and wrapped by elves. Known for their good-natured demeanour and their role as guardians of homes, these gnomes also analyse weather patterns for the gift-giving trip around the world. The ear-shaped structure of the fell allows Father Christmas to hear the wishes of every child on Earth. For letter mail to Father Christmas, the postal code is 99999 Korvatunturi and all post sent to this address is actually carried to Santa Claus Village at Rovaniemi).

In the stamp design, Santa blows a post horn and flies in a sleigh  pulled by reindeer. The full moon and the Northern Lights light his way. The silvery finish added to the stamp enhances the magical atmosphere.

The First Day Cover (FDC) shows Santa driving in his reindeer driven sleigh announcing his arrival with a post horn in the background image, which is identical to the image on the Postage Stamp.

The Cancellation Handstamp/Postmark is of Helsinki and the cancellation is dated - 0"06.05.2020".

About EUROPA Postage Stamps:

EUROPA Postage Stamps (also known as EUROPA-CEPT- European Conference Postal and Telecommunication Administrations - until 1992) are special stamps issued by European Postal Administrations/Enterprises and bear the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA Stamps underline cooperation in the posts domain, aimed at promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals.

As such, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe's desire for closer integration and cooperation.

When CEPT decided to focus more on telecommunications in 1993, PostEurop took over the management of the EUROPA issues. The CEPT logo was replaced by a new logo created by PostEurop i.e. the word "EUROPE" leaning towards the right hand side.

Each Year, PostEurop's Stamps & Philately Group" selects the EUROPA Stamp theme:
