About Mail Art, Spain:

Mail Art is the name used to designate an original artistic activity that uses postal distribution as a means of expression.

There are many forms that can be adopted in this discipline, from messages to collages, through objects or poems.

This art form is aimed at a wide audience, sometimes unknown to the author himself, who tries to get out, in a certain way, from the traditional ways of distributing art.

The V International Postal Art Exhibition In Avilés, Spain had the theme "The Earth". 

The Exhibition  received more than 500 postal works from 37 different countries.

One of the exhibits in this edition,  has been selected to feature on this Stamp dedicated to Mail Art (or Art by Mail), the first official stamp dedicated to this artistic discipline to be issued in the world.

The Postage stamp of 1.50 Euro issued by Correos Espana (Spanish Post) featuring the globe with a gas mask.

The selected work reflects a world ball, protected with a gas mask, which, as a metaphor, wants to denounce environmental pollution on our planet. The design of this work has been made by  García de Marina, (Gijón, 1975), a photographer of recognized national and international prestige.

This label will also inaugurate a series that next year will have “Aire” as the theme.

Once again, the stamp takes on that “meta stamp” look, in which it becomes a work of art in itself.

Beyond the postal value, although without forgetting its essence as a method of postage, this issue will occupy an important place in Philatelic History/History of the Stamp.

A First Day Cover (FDC) shows the Globe wearing a face mask at left. At top right is affixed the 1.50 Euro Stamp.

The FDC is titled "MAIL ART". The special Cancellation Handstamp/Postmark bears an identical image of a world wearing a gas mask. The Cancellation is dated - "13.04.2021".
