About the three Museums, Spain:

Three new stamps, dedicated to three Spanish museums, have been added to a series with which Correos promotes the dissemination of Spanish culture through these centers that preserve, guard and disseminate the history of humanity.

This year the leading museums are

i) Postal and Telegraph Museum, Madrid

ii) National Museum of Roman Art, Merida and  

iii) Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, La Rioja.

i) Postal and Telegraph Museum, Madrid:

 This museum houses one of the most important collections in the field of Philately, Postal History and the History of Telecommunications. 

In it, one can find from the first stamp in the world, the Penny Black, uniforms of Post Office officials from all times, old telephone exchanges and even a replica of a postal traveling train. 

The stamp that the Post Office dedicates to this institution is made up of a collage with images of some of its most emblematic pieces, such as the lion's head mailbox or a Morse station.


The First Day Cover (FDC) is titled - "MUSEOS", "Museo Postal y Telegrafico - MADRID".

At left is seen the façade/entrance of the Museum building. 

ii) National Museum of Roman Art, Merida:

In the historical city of Mérida, is located the National Museum of Roman Art.

The Museum is more than 175 years old and came into existence as a result of excavations at the Roman site of the Extremaduran City. 

The collections of the National Museum of Roman Art focus almost exclusively on objects found in the Mérida site.

 The stamp's main motif is the image of one of the Museum's rooms, designed by the architect Rafael Moneo. In it, we can see some of the pieces belonging to the permanent collection.


The First Day Cover (FDC) is titled - "MUSEOS", "Museo Nacional de Arte Romano - MERIDA".

At left is seen the front façade/entrance of the Museum building. 

Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, La Rioja

With the aim of educating, disseminating and interacting with wine, this museum was set up in the town of Briones, La Rioja. 

It has a permanent collection with century-old vessels, presses or important works of art by great painters such as Picasso or Juan Gris. 

Outside the Museum, the Bacchus Garden represents a tribute to the vineyard with more than 200 grape varieties from around the world. 

The stamp shows one of the Museum's rooms dedicated to work in the wineries.


The First Day Cover (FDC) is titled - "MUSEOS", "Museo Vivanco de la Cultura del Vino - LA RIOJA".

At left it shows a grape vine from the Baccus Garden outside the Museum. The special Cancellation Handstamp features an image of the Museum. The Cancellation date is - "26.03.2021"
