About Sustainability:

In 1987, the United Nations Report ‘Our Common Future’, also known as the Brundtland report, was published.

The Report defines sustainable development as the ability to meet the needs of current generations without compromising the same ability of future generations.

 According to the report, global environmental problems are the result of poverty in one part of the world and unsustainable consumption and production in another.

Since then, several Firms, Organisations, Social Groups have adopted Sustainabilty in a big way. This is the experience of PostNL (Netherlands Post) which is one of the most sustainable companies in the world within the logistics and transport sector, taking third place in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). 

PostNL (Netherlands Post) & its continued experience with Sustainability, as an Employer:

PostNL has firm sustainability objectives, linked to the United Nations principles for human rights, labour conditions, environmental protection and integrity. 

PostNL has measurable targets for being a good employer, sustainability in logistics, community involvement and transparency about performance. 

PostNL reports on the results annually. 

The results show that more and more clean kilometres are being made: 

- Delivery staff are increasingly using electric bicycles and mopeds to make way for clean vehicles. 

- Electric buses and biogas buses are now in use, and PostNL uses sustainable fuels (HVO100) for buses and lorries.

-  Electric freight vehicles are also used for emission-free parcel delivery in city centres. 

- The newly built parcel sorting centres are BREEAM certified for sustainable buildings.

 In 2021, BREEAM Certification will be finalised for the existing parcel sorting centres.

 In November 2020, it was announced that PostNL is once again one of the most sustainable companies in the world within the logistics and transport sector, taking third place in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). 

In terms of the environment, PostNL is even ranked in first place.

The Stamp:

A Sheetlet of Six Stamps. 

A First Day Cover (FDC) shows at left a happy child in a clean eco-friendly environment holding a heart-shaped world, symbolising that she loves her planet and will take steps to protect it.

At top right is affixed the postage stamp. The special Cancellation Handstamp features the image placed at left. The date of Cancellation is - "22.03.2021".


The Presentation Pack shows PostNL personnel cycling to office and to deliver mail at various destinations etc.
