About Veteran Tractors:

Preserved at the Åland Agricultural and Forestry Museum in Ringsböle, Jomala, the American Cletrac Crawler Tractor is believed to be the first tractor in Åland (Postage Stamp of 3.00 Euro)

According to a local newspaper article (Tidningen Åland), brothers Karl and Johan Söderlund of Ödkarby, Saltvik, acquired it from Sweden in 1919 to use on their farm. Karl Söderlund describes the tractor in the article: “It was a Cletrac tractor, with tracks, and it had a mighty forty horsepower Cleveland engine. It failed us only once, when a brake band broke.”

A Fordson iron wheel tractor, model F from 1924, is portrayed on the other stamp (1.60 Euro)

It was probably the second tractor in the municipality of Hammarland, and it has been on the same farm in Näfsby, Hammarland, since it was purchased by farm owner Viktor Hamström in the 1920s.

However, Gunnar Fager-holm, married to Hamström’s adopted daughter Almida, sat behind the wheel. The tractor was widely used in the entire district for ploughing, harrowing and threshing, we learn from grandson Ralf Fagerholm, who has restored it and keeps it on the family farm. The tractor rolled until 1955, after which it operated as a stationary engine well into the 1960s, running both chippers and grinder.

A First Day Cover (FDC) shows a picture of a Tractor at left. At top right are affixed the two Stamps issued in the Set.

The FDC is titled - "VETERANTRAKTORER".

The Special Cancellation Handstamp/Postmark is of Mariehamn Post Office and is dated - "02.02.2021".

A Gutter Pair of the Two Stamp Variants

In philately, a Gutter is the space left between postage stamps which allows them to be separated or perforated

When stamps are printed on large sheets of paper that will be guillotined into smaller sheets along the gutter it will not exist on the finished sheet of stamps.

Some sheets are specifically designed where two panes of stamps are separated by a gutter still in the finished sheet and gutters may, or may not, have some printing in the gutter. Since perforation of a particular width of stamps is normal, the gutter between the stamps is often the same size as the postage stamp.

Several derivative terms exist:

- Gutter pairs are two stamps separated by a gutter.

- Gutter block is a block of at least four stamps where either the vertical or horizontal pairs, or both, are separated by a gutter.

- Gutter margin is a margin dividing a sheet of stamps into separate panes.
