About Tom and Jerry Cartoons:

Between 1940 and 1958, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera made 114 cartoon strips for MGM, which featured Tom and Jerry, who are locked in an infinite, never-ending battle for supremacy between the popular Tomcat and Mouse characters, with a devoted fan following.

The short clips show the frustrating attempts of Tom trying to catch Jerry. A true cat-and-mouse game ensues, in which the music and sound effects contribute to the humour and action. Together Tom and Jerry even won seven Academy Awards for the Best Animated Short Film.

In the next decade, the two cartoonists made 47 more short clips and in 2001, the first of the last three short clips were made and screened.

After 80 years, Tom and Jerry are just as popular as they always were, a sign of an exceptional creation.

In 2020, they celebrate their 80th birthday. A film in honour of their 80th birthday is scheduled to be released in 03/2021.

The Commemorative Coin:

The Header/banner is titled "80 Years of Tom and Jerry" - Multi view Medal in Coincard.

The Royal Dutch Mint has brought Tom and Jerry together in this comical issue.

The colourful Coin-card depicts the mischievous two. This playful issue is very special.

The innovative multi-view technique makes it possible that the obverse depicts not one, but two individual images which are only visible from a certain angle. The lenticular style of metal striking has been used as the primary feature on this coin, in such a way as to create two visually oriented surfaces which can reveal a different image depending on how the coin is viewed.

If the coin is tilted to one side, one sees Tom, while if on tilts it to the other side, the image reveals Jerry.

The Reverse of the Coin shows the Tom and Jerry Anniversary logo.

Two variants have been issued by the Royal Dutch Mint, The Netherlands - a Gold Variant and a Cupro-nickel Variant:

The specifications of the Gold Variant are:

The Reverse of the multi-view commemorative Gold Medal shows the logo of the 80 year milestone of "Tom and Jerry" cartoons.
