1603) World Soil Day (5th December), United Nations (UN): The United Nationas Postal Organisation (UNPA) has issued a Commemorative Stamp Sheet (SS) of 10 Stamps of $1.20 each celebrating World Soil Day: Date of Stamp Sheet issue: 05.12.2020:

The "World Soil Day" 10 Stamp Sheetlet (SS) of $1.20 each issued by the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA)

On 05.12.2020, the United Nations Postal Administration(UNPA) issued a personalised Stamp Sheet (SS) celebrating World Soil Day.

The Stamp Sheet consists of ten US$ 1.20 denominated stamps with the illustrations composed in soil to reflect the indispensable role of soil in sustaining all living beings on Earth.

The tabs feature the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), whose achievement are linked and attributed to healthy soils.

The background image shows a rice terrace in a village of Ban Pa Pong Piang in Northern Chiang Mai Province of Thailand - an example of a locally driven approach to pursue economic growth and livelihood in tandem with sustainable use and management of the precious soil resources.

World Soil Day is commemorated annually on 05th December every year under the leadership of the Kingdom of Thailand, to highlight the importance of healthy soil and sustainable management of soil resources.

The Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations has begun a campaign "Stop Soil Erosion, Save our Future" and invites suggestions for activities by students, farmers, teachers, NGOs and Private Sector Organisations (PSOs).

The FAO stresses upon the need to focus on Soil Conservation through the following points:

- A deep and newfound appreciation for our soils

- A wealth of information material 

- Friends, partnerships and linkages and

- a personal discovery by all individuals.

The International Union of Soil Scientists has designated the decade 2015-2024 as the International Decade of Soils.
