Japanese anime has taken the world by storm. Its unique style is distinctively unique in the world of art and animation.

The Japan Mint, who in 2020 issued this exciting seven-piece set dedicated to the 25th anniversary of one of Japan’s most popular animated television shows - EVANGELION.

A Tribute to One of Japan’s Most Popular Anime Series:

Ranging in denomination from 1 Yen to 500 Yen, the set includes six legal tender coins.

Each proof was expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields.

They feature unique cultural design that are distinctly Japanese — including a hole in the 50 yen and 5-yen coins.

The highlight of the set is a one-year-only colorized silver medal that is exclusive to this set.

It features Eva Unit 01 — a giant robotic humanoid piloted by the show’s main character, Shinji Ikari, in the on-going war between the paramilitary organization NERV against hostile beings called Angels. NERV fights the war with giant robots called Evangelions, or EVAs for short, and are piloted by a select group of teenagers. The “tails” side of the coin-sized medal is stamped with the NERV symbol.

Each 2020 Japan Evangelion Seven-Piece Proof Set comes in its original mint packaging that consists of a clear numismatic capsule that holds the medal and all six proof coins mounted inside a colorful foldout story card detailing each of the monuments depicted on the coins and a celebration of the Evangelion program’s 25th anniversary.

The foldout can be stood up into a triangle-like presentation and fits inside a branded slipcase. This set continues Japan’s streak of popular releases.

In fact, Japanese-themed coins have been among the most popular numismatic collectibles in recent years, typically selling out with very few ever making their way out of the country.
