1687) "The Fool", Tarot Cards, Niue Island: The First $2 (Two Dollars) Coin Card released by the New Zealand Mint: Year of Coin issue: 2021:
The first Card in a Tarot Deck - "The Fool": The Tarot describes the Fool's Journey through Life's experiences:
"The Fool" features on the first release in the New Zealand Mint's exciting new Tarot Cards Coin Collection on behalf of the Niue Islands, struck in 1oz pure silver.
He starts the journey through the emblematic Tarot cards known as the Major Arcana. Much of the Major Arcana is told as ‘The Story of the Fool’. As card number zero, The Fool represents the number of "unlimited potential".
This Card is generally an important and positive card in the Tarot deck, signifying the start of a new journey. The Fool encourages an open, curious mind and a sense of excitement. He is often shown looking outward, ready to take a leap of faith. When the Fool Card falls in the Reverse, it may point to a feeling of being stopped from doing something; or it can hint towards inexperience and recklessness when pursuing a new venture.
The Coin:
The Reverse of the $2 (Two Dollars- NZD) Silver Coin shows a coloured and engraved representation of The Fool on a rectangular coin - to mirror the shape of a Tarot card.
The Obverse of the $2 (Two Dollars - NZD) has a striking engraved border around the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The inscriptions are - 'ELIZABETH II. NIUE, 2021. 2 DOLLARS".
The Coin is legal tender in Niue.
