The Coin Series titled "Magnificent Life" brought out by Coin Invest Trust (CIT) on behalf of the Cook Islands, with its realistic animal motifs, now presents the - Chameleon, the sixth coin in the Series. The Chameleon is a marvelous wonder of nature.

The Reverse of the 5 Dollars Silver Proof Coin placed on its edge on its Presentation Case/Box showcasing the realistic design of the Chameleon featured on this Coin and the high-relief and serrated edge

As a distinctive group of Old World Lizards, the Chameleon inhabits all kinds of tropical and mountain rainforests, savannahs and even deserts and steppes.

The earlier issues in this Coin Series featured - Peacock (2015), Wasp Spider (2016), Cobra (2017), Tree Frog (2018), Philippine Eagle (2019).

A significant hallmark of this Coin Series is the realistic animal motifs that combine Smartminting technology with virtuoso/vibrant colour application, a cupped proof surface and the depiction of a fascinating natural phenomenon.

The Coin:

The Reverse of the 5 Dollars Silver Proof Coin features the African Chameleon (Chamaeleo africanus). On the upper left periphery is mentioned the Coin Series Theme - "MAGNIFICENT LIFE".

The Chameleon's incredible eyes protrude from the head like little cones and can move independently of each other. The Smartminting technique has imparted a realistic, three-dimensional depiction of one of the two eyes.

The tongue is kept in the gular pouch and can extend up to 1.5 times the animal's body length of 30.0 cm to 35.0 cm. The Chameleon uses its tongue to catch its prey. Thanks to a sticky secretion combined with the ability to create a short-term vacuum, enables the tongue to generate a tensile force of about 0.4 newtons. The tongue is clearly visible in the Chameleon's mouth in red colour on this face of the Coin.

The extremities, which are designed like pincers, can also be recognised on this Coin. They are perfect gripper hands for an arboreal species.

Special emphasis has been placed on capturing the astonishing colourfulness of the animal in a life-like manner.

The Obverse of the 5 Dollar Silver Proof Coin shows an effigy of Elizabeth II, designed by Ian-Rank-Broadley, (whose initials "IRB" appear below the Queen's neck).

The peripheral inscriptions are - "ELIZABETH II. 5 DOLLARS. COOK ISLANDS . 2020".
