1027) Arowana Dragon Fish, Republic of Palau: A Silver $10 (Dollars) Coin brought out by Coin Invest Trust (CIT) for the Republic of Palau, minted by B.H. Mayer's Kunstprageanstalt, Munich: Coin issue year: 2019:
The Arowana Fish due to their resemblance to a Chinese Dragon on account of their large metallic scales, long fins and barbels are regarded as a particularly talismanic symbol in Asia and as a Feng Shui symbol bring good luck and prosperity. As such they are also referred to as "Dragonfish". Their scales reflect the light in all colours of the rainbow.
Their popularity as aquarium fish not only rests in the hopes of prosperity, but it is also believed that an Arowana can preserve its owner from death by dying itself. They are much sought after as they are believed to bring good luck and positive energies into one's personal environment.
Due to their large size of up to 90 cms (or about 35.0 inches) and depending on the colour variant, their prices can go up to enormously huge sums of money, as such, not everyone can afford to keep a live Arowana at home. Countless figurines and golden statues, however, make for ideal gifts for anyone.
An aquarium positioned in the South-east corner of an apartment is believed to bring money and wealth to the owner. If the aquarium is positioned in the North, it furthers the career, while an East side placement blesses the inhabitant of the apartment with robust health.
An Arowana sculpture, coupled with depiction of coins, furthers the trade if positioned at the entrance and/or the check-out counter.
The Coin:
This coin produced by Coin Invest Trust (CIT) on behalf of the island nation of Palau, links itself to this Asian tradition.
Depicted on the coin is a naturalistically designed golden Arowana, which because of the Smartminting technology, seems to be hovering above the Coin. The gilded Arowana has been minted, with its contours protruding out of the classic round coin frame.
The extravagant black enamel, through which the field optically completely fades into the background, has been applied with utmost precision.
The "lucky scales" of the fish have been treated with State-of-the-Art laser technology to create an exquisite life-like metallic sparkle. Every single scale is given a Proof edge with delicate frosting inside. Applying these two techniques side-by-side on a small surface alone is truly a demanding work of skill and expertise. As each scale is not flat, but three-dimensional, the technical difficulties that have been mastered with this strike is absolutely remarkable.
The Silver 10 Dollars Coin is placed edge-wise in this image against a black background, that shows off its beautiful intricate design to the viewers. Minted in high relief, the Arowana fish seem to be swimming on a golden ring. This effect is more pronounced with the remaining field being covered by black enamel
The Reverse of the Silver 10 Dollars Coin shows an Arowana in high relief, which seems to be swimming on a golden ring. This effect results from the remaining field being covered in black enamel.
An enhanced image of the Arowana fish's scales seen with a golden hue giving the impression of a live fish
The Obverse of the Silver 10 Dollars Coin is ornamented with a scaly pattern. In the centre is the National Coat of Arms of the Republic of Palau. with the inscription "REPUBLIC OF PALAU". Towards the lower periphery is the denomination of the coin "10$". Towards the upper periphery is the inscription "AROWANA/DRAGONFISH/2019".
