The International Day of Peace (or "World Peace Day") is a United Nations sanctioned holiday observed annually on 21st September, dedicated to world peace and specifically to the absence of war and violence.
This day was first celebrated in 1981 and is observed by many nations, political groups, military groups and people world-wide.
A resolution sponsored by the United Kingdom and Costa Rica was adopted, for celebrating the "International Day of Peace" on the third Tuesday of September every year, which was later changed in 2001 to 21st September.
In 2013, the day was dedicated by the then Secretary General of the United Nations to peace education the key preventive means to reduce war sustainability. To inaugurate the day, the "United Nations Peace Bell" is rung at UN Headquarters, in New York City.
The "United Nations Peace Bell" is cast from coins donated by children from all continents, except Africa, and was a gift from the United Nations Association of Japan - "as a reminder of the human cost of war". The inscription on its side reads, "Long Live Absolute World Peace".

This beautiful 5 Pounds "Proof-like" Coin was issued in 2017 at Christmas by the Isle of Man.
The Reverse of the 5 Pounds Coin depicts a familiar image of a dove carrying an olive branch with outstretched wings.
The edge inscription reads - "Shee dy row er y thalloo" (which translates as - "Peace on Earth").
This metallic composition of this coin is Alpaca (an alloy of Brass).
This Coin has been presented by the Isle of Man to coincide with the International Peace Day (2020), whose theme is "Shaping Peace Together".
