The Reverse of the 5 Pounds coin commemorating the Bicentenary of the death of George III (Born 04.06.1738 - Reign: 25.10.1760 - 29.01.1820 (death)
He was one of Great Britain's most notable monarchs and his reign was both tumultuous and eventful.
His reign life and reign was longer than any of his predecessors, were marked by a series of military conflicts involving his kingdoms, much of the rest of Europe and places farther afield in Africa, the Americas and Asia. Early in his reign, Britain defeated France in the "Seven Year's War" becoming the dominant European power in North America.
His period saw sweeping changes including the loss of the American Colonies in the "American War of Independence" (1976), the French Revolution and "Napoleonic Wars" (1793-1815), concluded with the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo and the acquisition of many Overseas territories with formed the foundation of Britain's 19th Century Empire.
In the later part of his life, George III had recurrent and eventually permanent mental illness. It seems that he had a bipolar disorder or the blood disease porphyria. After a final relapse in 1810, a regency was set up, with his eldest son ruling as Prince Regent, who ultimately ascended the throne as George IV.
George III legacy encompassed several discoveries and progress during his time - from science to agriculture and industry.

The 400th Anniversary of the extraordinary voyage of the Mayflower is being celebrated this year. The long dangerous journey that took 102 men, women and children from Plymouth, England to Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA and led to the founding of one of the first European settlements in the New World.
Following their first harvest in 1621, America's original Thanksgiving feast was held. For many citizens of the USA, it is a journey that sits at the ideological foundations of the country, although, America declared its independence only after another 150 years during the reign of George III.
The spirit of the pilgrims still remains a part of the annual celebrations in the USA held every third Thursday in November since 1938. The design shows the Mayflower ship and the dual dates - 1620 and 2020.
