This Banknote will also have the unique distinction, in that, it will feature the image of a woman other than that of Queen Elizabeth II on the Front of the Banknote.

Kate Kranston, as she appears on the new RBS 20 Pounds Banknote. This Banknote with her image is being issued in line with a decision taken by the RBS Scottish Board
The new 20 Pounds Banknote will show an image of Kate Cranston (1849-1934), a legendary Scottish entrepreneur who had played a central role in promoting the popularity of Tea-rooms, in place of the usual image of the Queen.
Cranston was also a major patron of the architect, designer and water-colourist - Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

The unveiling/presentation of this Banknote was at her famous "Macintosh at the Willow tea room" in Glasgow. The room's original interior was designed by Macintosh.
The Banknote also features red squirrels on a tree. A small red squirrel - as it is featured on the RBS new 20 Pounds Banknote. Don't miss the small "20" numeral next to the squirrel's nose
The Banknote also shows the "blaeberry" (yes "blaeberry") fruit as seen above

Kate Cranston's tea rooms in Glasgow pioneered social change in the city through the art of tea, giving people a way to socialise outside the confines od a local pub. She was a business-women whose entrepreneurial spirit defied the Victorian belief that women should remain housewives.
Her brother Stuart had earlier set up tea rooms making them more affordable and accessible to the common gentry. Kate took them a tad further developing them as an instrument of social change and giving them a welcoming social atmosphere.
In 1878, when she opened the Crown Luncheon Room, the emphasis was on "exquisite décor".
She expanded her approach in later ventures, when she worked with a number of artists, in addition to Macintosh. Her Willows Tearooms that still exist were initially popular because they gave women the chance to socialise without any men around.
She passed away on 18.04.1934, by which time she was hailed as an astute business-woman. She left two-thirds of her estate to the poor of Glasgow.
