About "Typically Dutch Stamp Series" – Wooden Houses:

This year, the "Typically Dutch Stamp Series focuses on house types and façades that are typical for the Netherlands - Wooden Houses

The houses featured are located on Zonnewijzerpad in Zaanse Schans

This area in Zaandam was constructed in 1963 to make space for old wooden buildings and industrial mills elsewhere in the Zaan region.

For example, the worker's house featured on the left-hand side of the stamp originates from Ezelspad in Zaandijk and the house on the right-hand side used to stand on Lagendijk in Koog aan de Zaan

Both houses date from around 1700 and have carved gableboard along the eaves to prevent wind and rain from getting under the roofing. The top of each façade tip has a makelaar, a white-painted ornament in the shape of a corkscrew.

The typical green-coloured Zaan wood comes in many shades; there is no single Zaan green shade.

The First Day Cover (FDC) shows at left an image of the typically Dutch Wooden Houses, Windmill in the background.

The Postage Stamp issued in the set is affixed at top right. The special Cancellation Handstamp is dated - "22.02.2021".

A Sheetlet of six Stamps.

The Typically Dutch – Wooden Houses Stamps feature a colourful illustration of two workers’ houses in Zaanse Schans

There is a tree next to the wooden house on the left, and there are tulips in bloom next to the house on the right.

At the front, the green of the houses is visible from the grassy fields that are actually there as well. At the bottom of the stamp is a black line, which is a reference to the street level.

A sorting hook, the year (2021), Country name (The Netherlands) and denomination "1" are featured in a white strip underneath the black line. The background features a deep blue sky with clouds floating by.

The logo for the Typically Dutch series is printed above each stamp, with a folded Dutch banner on the left and right.

The houses on the stamp return on the upper sheet edge, but larger and extended with two other wooden houses, with a second tree. The red tulips have shifted to the right on the sheet edge. The sky takes up a larger area of the illustration than on the stamp.

"Very interesting information about the carved facade covering the slits between the walls and roof to prevent wind and rain from entering the houses! I've visited Netherlands several times, seen these beautiful houses but, never gauged the significance of the "covers!" 🤔"
