The Mythology:

When our ancient ancestors passed on incredible stories full of supernatural creatures, they tried to cope with things they did not understand.

They imagined mischievous sprites who hide things, as well as massive giants whose feet shake the earth. In times of need, they begged for help from kind angels, and at night they trembled before bloodthirsty vampires. Although hundreds and thousands of years have passed, ancient legends continue to fascinate us.

The twelve-piece series of silver coins embellished with patina is dedicated to the most interesting mythical creatures

Mythological figures - Elf: 3rd Coin in the Series:

The third silver coin of the Czech Mint from the cycle called Mythological Characters represents a noble elf.

The life of the noble elves is closely linked to magic. They live in harmony with nature, which they value above all else, but they do not lack a flair for arts and crafts.

They tend to be long-lived or even immortal, which affects their relationship with ordinary mortals. Some are arrogant, dominant and self-centred, others do not hesitate to share their wisdom and experience.

They are tall and graceful in appearance, with long hair and pointed ears. Their senses are honed, especially their sight and hearing, and their agile bodies move quickly and silently.

When hunting and fighting, they prefer bows, and few of the arrows they shoot miss their target...

This is how people imagine the mythical elves, mainly because of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic novel “The Lord of the Rings”.

The British writer, who is considered the father of fantasy literature, was inspired by Germanic legends - mainly by Norse mythology.

Over the centuries, the characteristics of elves have changed a lot. Some people attributed human proportions and supernatural beauty to them, others considered them to be dwarves, gnomes or tiny fairies. Sometimes elves were benevolent beings, sometimes they were associated with harmful magic...

 The Coin:

The Reverse of the $2 (Two Dollars) Silver Coin, which is the work of medal maker Roman Å amiljan, presents This face of the coin presents the elf as we know him from contemporary fantasy - with long hair, pointed ears and a quiver full of arrows.

The Obverse of the $2 (Two Dollars) Silver Coin.

As the licence to issue the Czech Mint's commemorative coins is granted by the Pacific island of Niue, this face bears its national emblem, the nominal value of "2 DOLLARS (NZD)" and the year of issue "2024".

These necessary attributes are surrounded by elemental nature - rocks, clouds, trees and waves. The details of the relief are emphasized by the patina.

One can save the complete twelve-piece collection of coins with characters from the realms of myth, legend and fantasy in a collector's album which you can also find in our offer.
