Babylon – Lost Civilizations:

This is the first Coin in the Coin Series titled - "Lost Civilisations".

The Reverse of the $10 (Ten Dollars) Silver Coin, placed against a background representative image of an imagined Gate of the Lost City of Babylon in antiquity

Background information:

The city of Babylon was the capital of Babylonia, a kingdom in ancient Mesopotamia. 

The city was founded more than 4,000 years ago along both banks of the Euphrates river, whose ruins are located in present-day Iraq. 

King Hammurabi created one of the ancient world’s largest cities during the 18th century BC

After being destroyed, Babylon became the Neo-Babylonian Empire’s capital that spanned from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea.

 Art and architecture flourished throughout the Babylonian Empire, especially in Babylon, which is also famous for its impenetrable walls and blue tiled Ishtar Gate.

Coin description:

The Reverse of the $10 (Ten Dollars) Silver Coin depicts Babylon’s detailed skyline with the Tower of Babel and its unique blue tile painted walls of the Ishtar Gate, which is now reconstructed in the Pergamon Museum, the most visited museum in Berlin.

The Obverse of the $10 (Ten Dollars) Silver Coin depicts a Babylonian horseman in front of the famous impenetrable walls and its engravings. 

Also the Coat of Arms of Palau and the inscriptions: “REPUBLIC OF PALAU” (the issuing country), “2021” (the year of issue) and “10$” (the denominational value of the Coin) are featured on this face.
