1613) Okapi, Republic of Rwanda: 14th Coin in the "Rwandan Wildlife African Ounce Coin Series" which commenced in 2008:  Year of Coin issue: 2021:

The "The Rwandan Wildlife African Ounce" is a Coin Series issued yearly by Rwanda with a changing design presenting African Wildlife. The series began in 2008 and has become popular over the years due to the great designs which change yearly and a limited mintage.

The "Rwandan Wildlife Series" debuted in 2008 with the image of a powerful, imposing silverback gorilla, a female gorilla, and a young gorilla. The series has depicted a number of other distinctive animal species from the African continent, including but not limited to, the lion, zebra, rhino, cheetah, meerkat, and hippo.

The latest release in this popular Coin Series, issued in  2021, features the rare Okapi:

Okapis are genetically linked to the giraffe and are just one of two members of the "Giraffidae" family, along with the giraffe.

Generally a solitary animal, the okapis will come together during the breeding season to live in small family groups. The Okapi is endemic to the Democratic Republic of Congo and is found within the tropical forests of the central, northern, and eastern reaches of the country.

In the Rwandan Wildlife African Ounce Series, the B.H. Mayer Mint of Munich, Germany offers three options for the designs released each year.

With a new animal depicted on the Reverse side each year, investors and collectors can choose between 1 oz Silver Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) coins, 1 oz Silver Proof coins, and 1 oz Gold BU coins.

On the Obverse of the 50 Francs Silver & 100 Francs Gold Coins, is depicted the Coat of Arms/Emblem of the Republic of Rwanda. The coins feature the latest version of the National Coat of Arms with a traditional, woven basket at the center with additional elements of coffee, sorghum, tribal battle shields, and a rope encircling the entire design element.

The inscriptions on this face are - "BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA" (on the upper periphery) and "AMARAFARANGA 50 MIRONGO ITANU" (for Silver Coins) on the lower periphery and "AMARAFARANGA 100 IJANA" (for Gold Coins).

On the Reverse of the 50 Francs Silver and 100 Francs Gold Coins is depicted an image of Okapis and the African continent. The outline of the African continent captures a topographic image of the landmass, while the design in the lower-left field features two Okapis standing together near a tree.

The peripheral inscriptions are: "AFRICAN OUNCE" (on the left periphery) and "2021. 1 Oz FINE Silver or Gold. 999" (on the right periphery).

These Coins come with protective Plastic Capsules and a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint. With a limited release of just 1,000 silver coins, these are the most sought-after coins in the collection. Each one has frosted design elements with mirrored background fields.
