This beautiful Series of eight coins titled "Butterflies of Israel" has been issued in 2018 and depicts the following butterflies:
1) Plain Tiger (Danaus chrysippus):
First Coin in the Series:
The Obverse of the Coin depicts a beautiful butterfly in full colour on a background of flowers. On the upper periphery the series name "BUTTERFLIES OF ISRAEL" is inscribed in both English and Hebrew.
Along the lower periphery, the name of the butterfly "PLAIN TIGER" (in both English and Hebrew) is inscribed.
At right is the logo of the Holy Land Mint and "0.5 OZ. 999 SILVER. 2018" is engraved.
The Plain Tiger butterfly is common in Israel throughout the year, particularly in the warm, moist areas around the Dead Sea. In summer, it migrates Northwards and its mass migration in the Agamon Hula Nature Park
A big butterfly with an 8.0 centimetre wing-span, it has bright orange and yellow-coloured wings, decorated with white-spotted black borders. The female deposits its eggs on the leaves of milkweeds, its host plant.
2) Common Blue (Polyommatus Icarus):

On the Obverse of the Coin, the Common Blue is shown in full colour perched on a background of flowers, leaves and berries. On the upper periphery, the coin series name - "BUTTERFLIES OF ISRAEL" appears in both English & Hebrew.
On the lower periphery is the name of the butterfly - "COMMON BLUE" (in both English and Hebrew).
At centre right is the logo of the Holy Land Mint, together with the description ".5 OZ. 999 SILVER.2018".
The Common Blue is a small butterfly with a 3.5 centimetre wing-span, common in temperate regions. In Israel, it is found near the Mediterranean from March to November. The male is blue-coloured, while the colours of the female are more brownish. The male guards its territory, driving away intruders. The female deposits its eggs on leaves of a large genus of perennial herbs known as Ononis.
On the lower periphery is the name of the butterfly - "COMMON BLUE" (in both English and Hebrew).

The Lesser Fiery Copper is one of the most beautiful fiery-coloured butterflies in Israel. A small butterfly with a 3.0 centimetres wing-span, it is found throughout the year except in winter, in the area close to the Mediterranean and Southwards, as far as, the Negev Desert.
4) Lesser Spotted Fritillary (Melitaea trivia syriaca):

The Lesser Fiery Copper is one of the most beautiful fiery-coloured butterflies in Israel. A small butterfly with a 3.0 centimetres wing-span, it is found throughout the year except in winter, in the area close to the Mediterranean and Southwards, as far as, the Negev Desert.
