On 07.09.2018, Kyrgyz Express Post will put into circulation a series of three postage stamps titled "Butterflies of Kyrgyzstan".

Butterflies are insects belonging to the order of Lepidoptera. Butterflies attract by virtue of their remarkable appearance, but among other things, they also play an important role in natural eco-systems, serving as pollinators of many species of flowering plants. 

In the cultures of different nations, butterflies represent symbols of freedom, love and  hope.

Some species of butterflies are very rare and have been listed in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic:


The above is an image of the collective sheet of the three butterfly stamps - Loxias Apollo Butterfly (Parnassius loxias tashkorensis) 50 KGS, Colias regia (100 KGS), Christoph's Clouded Yellow (Colias christophi) 150 KGS, which shows the butterflies in their natural environment


This collective mini-sheet shows the image of Parnassius jacquemontii variabilis butterfly on its border. The collective mini-sheet is made with the cut-to-shape technique.

On the sheet borders there is the name of the Series "Butterflies of Kyrgyzstan" in Kyrgyz and English languages. A total of 2,000 collective mini-sheets will be issued.

An image of the First Day Cover (FDC) titled at left bottom, "Butterflies of Kyrgyzstan", and "Kyrgyz Express Post - Official First Day Cover", with an image of the Loxias Apollo butterfly.

On top right are the three  stamps included in the set cancelled with the special pictorial handstamp depicting a butterfly in the centre, dated "07.09.2018".

The specifications of the First Day Cover (FDC) are:


Size: 162.0 mm x 114.0 mm; No. of FDCs issued: 400; Endorsing color ink: Black.

The FDC is also available with a collective mini-sheet affixed to a blank C5 envelope and is cancelled with a special pictorial first day cancellation.

The details of the mini-sheet cancelled FDC are:

Size: 229.0 mm x 162.0 mm; No. of mini-sheet affixed FDCs issued: 400.

The above stamp  of 50 KGS depicts the Loxias Apollo (or  Parnassius loxias tashkorensis) butterfly

This Butterfly is a rare endemic species listed in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan.

The specifications of this stamp are:

Size: 46.0 mm x 27.50 mm; Face value: 50 KGS; Perforation: comb 14:14-1/2;No. of stamps issued: 8,000 pieces. Printing method: full-colour offset lithography; Paper: coated, gummed 105/grams/sq mm.

            A mini-sheet depicting the Loxias Apollo Butterfly.

The mini-sheet consists of 5 stamps depicting the butterfly and one coupon, with extensions of the butterfly image being presented on the border of the mini-sheet. This photo was made near Daroot-Korgon village.

The size of the mini-sheet is 113 mm x 108 mm; No. of mini-sheets issued: 1,200.

             The above stamp of 100 KGS depicts the Colias regia butterfly

The Colias regia is a rare nature-beautifying butterfly, which lives at an altitude of 4,000 metres above sea-level.

The specifications of this  stamp are:

Size: 46.0 mm x 27.50 mm; Face value: 100 KGS; Perforation: comb: 14: 14-1/2; No. of stamps issued: 8,000 pieces; Printing method : full colour offset lithography; Paper: Coated, gummed 105/grams/sq mm.

The mini-sheet consists of 5 stamps depicting the butterfly and a coupon, with extensions of the butterfly image being presented on the border of the mini-sheet.

The Size of this mini-sheet is 113.0 mm x 108 mm; No. of mini-sheets issued: 1,200.

The above stamp of 150KGS depicts the Christoph's Clouded Yellow butterfly (Colias christophi)


This butterfly is named after the famous entomologist Hugo Christoph, who made a great contribution to the study of insects of Central Asia. This species is listed in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The specifications of this stamp are:

Size: 46.0 mm x 27.50 mm; Face value: 150 KGS; Perforation: comb 14.0: 14-1/2; No. of stamps issued: 8,000 pieces; Printing method: Full offset lithography; Paper:  coated, gummed 105/grams/sq mm.

The mini-sheet consists of five stamps depicting the butterfly and a coupon, with extensions of the butterfly image being presented on the border of the mini-sheet.

The size of this mini-sheet is 113.0 mm; No. of mini-sheets issued: 1,200.


The stamp issue will also contain a set of three Maximum Cards which will be available from 10.09.2018.


The specifications of the Maximum Cards are:

Size: 148 mm x 105 mm.
