About Caroline Miolan-Carvalho:

Daughter of a renowned oboist, Caroline Miolan-Carvalho was born in Marseille in 1827.

She was admitted to the Paris Conservatory in the class of the great tenor Gilbert Duprez. She graduated in 1847 with a First Prize for singing.

Engaged at the Opéra-Comique, she gained attention in 1853 in Les Noces by Jeannette by Massé. She obtained real triumphs in Faust (1859), Philemon and Baucis (1860), Hireille [1862), The logic Flute (1865), Romeo and Juliet (1867).

She lit up the first season of the Monte-Carlo Opera in 1880 in the role of Marguerite in Gounod's Faust.

The elegance and purity of her style, her virtuosity, the lightness of her voice, and her incomparable phrasing, made her one of the greatest lyrical artists of the 19th century
