The Royal Mint has released on 06.12.2021, the first coin to be remastered as part of their “Great Engravers” Coin Series with the Reverse design featuring the iconic Gothic Crown by renowned engraver William Wyon (1795–1851). 

The Header/Banner shows the Obverses and Reverses of the Gold and Silver Coins against a background image inscribed "The Great Engravers" and "The Royal Mint"

Wyon is most remembered for his coin and medal effigies of King William IV and Queen Victoria, and is especially well-known for his design of the famed "Una and the Lion" Gold Crown Coins released in 1839, considered to be as one of the most beautiful numismatic treasures of Great Britain.

Released in 1847, the Gothic crown coins were intended as a commemorative piece to mark the 10th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s accession.

 However, the coin was minted in very limited quantity of just 8,000 pieces in Proof quality along with an even smaller quantity struck in gold. 

As such, the coin was not intended for circulation and included only in Proof sets at the time. 

The Royal Mint’s latest version has released the two sides of the original between two separate United Kingdom coins.

This coin features the Reverse of the original coin featuring the quartered arms and including the Roman numerals "MMXXI" denoting 2021 combined with  Elizabeth II's effigy facing right designed by Jody Clark.

An additional coin is being issued in 2022 featuring the iconic Gothic Crown Obverse effigy of Queen, but dated 2021, combined with the current effigy of the Queen shown on the Obverse. (a rare design with both the Queens figuring on a single Coin).
