2219) "Heart of the Forest", Guernsey, A British Crown Dependency (BCD): Guernsey Post has brought out the first part of a stamp quartet which takes inspiration from the "Love Paper" Global Campaign: Date/Year of Stamp issue: 09.02.2022:
"Love Paper" - A global consumer-focussed Campaign:
Love Paper is a global consumer-focused campaign launched in 2012 to improve perceptions and raise awareness of the sustainability and attractiveness of print, paper and paper-based packaging.
Research carried out by "Two Sides" revealed some common misconceptions held by UK consumers:
- Some 64% people surveyed believed that European forests are shrinking – in fact, they’re growing in size by 1,500 football pitches every day.
Only 16% believe the European paper recycling rate is above 60% – it is actually 74% (The highest in the world!)
The campaign is making a difference.
Surveys conducted in 2011 and 2016 show a 50% increase in UK consumer recognition of the environmental-friendliness of printed newspapers and a 13% increase for printed magazines.
In 2019, the campaign was relaunched with its own identity, new adverts, a new website and new possibilities for companies to support. The "Love Paper logo" is now a registered trademark that reaches over 10 million consumers every month through advertising in newspapers and magazines.
There are a number of ways that one can support the "Love Paper" campaign, including:
1. Brand adoption on one's printed marketing material or product packaging. The Campaign encourages brands, retailers and print agencies to use of the Love Paper mark. It can help enhance their own sustainability messaging, which is perfectly demonstrated by the campaign partners at Papier.
2. Publishing the Love Paper adverts in their publications.
3. Following the movement on Social Media - Facebook, Instagram and Twitter - and sharing great stories.
4. Members of "Two Sides" have exclusive rights to use the Love Paper branding, and many other tools & resources.
About Guernsey's "Heart of the Forest" Quartet Stamp Series - Part I:
Guernsey’s "Heart of the Forest" quartet stamp series has been created by Gail Armstrong, a paper sculptor and illustrator who creates stunning three-dimensional works of art from flat sheets of paper.
The stamp theme takes its inspiration from "Love Paper", the global campaign which promotes the sustainable and attractive attributes of print, paper, and paper packaging.
The campaign highlights how the paper industry depends on sustainable forest management to provide a reliable supply of wood fibre, the key raw material for paper products.
It advocates that sustainable forest management plays an important role in conserving biodiversity and eco systems.
This Stamp Series has used recycled old stamps and stamp sheets, bending and shaping the paper to depict some of the elements of sustainable forest management.
The designer has created some stunning three-dimensional paper cut images including a chestnut tree with a vibrant blue bird for the first stamp in the series.
The remaining three stamps will be released during the course of the year with the souvenir sheet which brings the whole heart of the forest together being released in November 2022.
