The Obverse of the 100 Euro Gold Coin, showing the abstract design of the tenets of representative democracy and separation of powers - legislative, judiciary and executive, yet working in cohesion

With Finland's Declaration of Independence, after the collapse of the Russian Empire and their change of structure from that of a grand Duchy to a Sovereign State, having a written constitution, was accorded the highest priority. During the turmoil of fighting during the Great War and the initial election of a King for Finland, the first document signed into law governed the country as a Republic for more than 50 years.

The Fundamental Principles of the Constitution Act of 1919 and the earlier Parliament Act of 1906 (a carry forward from the days of the Grand Duchy) were amended  in 1928

In 1987,  the most extensive and essential reforms took place, when provisions on the holding of consultative referendums were added to the constitution.

In 1995, a working group of experts called the Constitution 2000 Working Group, held a purpose to frame new regulations after Finland's accession to the European Union.

On 12.02.1999, Parliament gave its approval for the Committee's proposal for a new Constitution to be decided upon after the next coming parliamentary elections, which was approved in June 1999.

The Basic tenets:

With the adoption of the Constitution Act of 1919, the first Constitution of independent Finland the country elected to be governed as a Republic. Finland's Republican System of government and the  fundamental Principles/tenets of the Finnish Constitution Act of 1919 were recorded in the Constitution Act.

The basic tenets of the Finnish Constitution Act of 1919, still form the foundation of Finland's current constitution and its development during the Finnish independence.

The Commemorative Coin:

The Reverse of the 100 Euro Gold Coin focusses on the basic tenets of the Finnish Constitution Act of 1919, which atill form the foundation of Finland's current constitution and its development during Finnish independence.

The design reflects the core tenets of representative democracy, the separation of powers into the legislative, executive and judiciary branches in a universal, abstract expression. The year of issue "2019" is placed towards the centre right. At the lower periphery is ta specimen serial numbr "1/100" representing the limited edition of 100 Serially numbered Gold Coins.
