1913) The "Peacock Spider", Niue Island: A $2 (Two Dollars) Silver Coin minted by the Helvetica Mint, Switzerland on behalf of Niue Island: Year of Coin issue: 2021:

Every year, biologists discover around 20,000 new animal and plant species.

In Australia, the German biologist Jürgen Otto has discovered a new Peacock Spider species titled - "Maratus volans". They are considered to be the sweetest spiders in the world. They are fluffy little creatures with button eyes. It is a very small species, the animals are only about 5 mm.

"Maratus volans" is a species in the jumping spider family (Salticidae), belonging to the genus Maratus (peacock spiders). These spiders are native to certain areas in Australia and occupy a wide distribution of habitats.

They have a specialized visual system that allows them to see the full visible spectrum, as well as, in the UV-range; this helps them detect and pursue prey.

Males of this species are characterized by their colorful abdomen flaps that are used to attract females during courtship. In the mating season, the male spiders dance around the female with a courtship dance. A skin fold smoothed, which is otherwise invisible and dancing in front of the female. But, if the female spider does not like the dance, she eats up her admirer.

The Coin:
