2030) "Hydropower", Switzerland:  A Three Coin Series kickstarted by the SwissMint titled - "Energy of the Future":  The first 20 Swiss Francs Silver Coin in the Series is a Proof and Coloured Coin featuring Water Energy: Date of Coin issue: 09.09.2021:

The Swiss Federal Mint (Swissmint) has issued the first Silver Coins on the theme - "Hydropower" in  a three-part series titled - “Energy of the Future.”

For the first time in its minting history, the Swiss Federal Mint has issued a colour coin with additional fluorescent elements, enabling it to glow in the dark, which is available in Proof quality

Commemorative coins on the following themes are scheduled to be issued -

- "Solar Energy" (in 2022) and "Wind Energy" (in 2023).

Energy is a precious commodity and an indispensable part of our everyday lives.

Whether it’s to brew a pot of coffee first thing in the morning, to prepare meals at lunchtime, or to read children a bedtime story in dimmed light — we have become ultimately dependent on reliable on-demand energy as part of our everyday requirements.

Hydropower:

The Header/Banner presents the Reverse and Obverse of the 20 Swiss Francs Silver Coin with a Glow-in-the Dark feature, against a background of flowing water/water source

A sustainable energy supply plays an important role in this and natural resources such as water, wind, and sun are being further developed to meet the needs of future generations and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Hydropower is one of the oldest energy sources in the world and was already in use more than 6,000 years ago. It still offers an efficient, climate and environmentally-friendly form of generating electricity.

Presently, hydropower plants use the kinetic energy generated by flowing water which is passed through a turbine inside the hydropower plant itself. This begins to rotate under the continuous pressure and flow of the water and passes its kinetic energy onto a generator, which converts it into electrical energy.

In Switzerland, the hydropower plant network consists of run-of-river power plants (usually consisting of a barrage formed of a weir in a flowing body of water, e.g. river power plants), storage power plants (hydropower plants with natural or artificial water storage reservoirs) and pumped storage power plants (consisting of two water basins located at different heights, e.g. Grimsel).

A total of 677 hydro plants are in operation throughout the country, producing an average of around 36,741 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year and thereby supplying around 60% of Switzerland’s energy needs. Around 11% of Switzerland's hydropower generation comes from centralised international hydropower plants on border waters.

The Coin:

The Reverse of the 20 Swiss Francs Silver Coin includes a captivating motif with its colourful details depicting the turbine which is essential in a hydroelectric generator.

Stylised water currents are shown under the turbine and a diagram of the energy data on water consumption in Switzerland are depicted in the background. Above the primary design is the text "WASSERENERGIE" (“Water Energy”) followed by "EAU" and "ACQUA" (the words for “water” in French and Italian — the two additional national languages in Switzerland)

Just below that, turbine components and data on water consumption in Switzerland are depicted. The lower half of the image shows an abstract color image of water and water flows.

When the coin is viewed in the dark, another focal point is revealed. The fluorescent elements printed on the coin begin to glow, which is another highlight in the history of Swiss numismatics as this addition is the first time this special feature has been used on a coin issued by the Swiss Federal Mint.

The Obverse of the 20 Swiss Francs Silver Coin is that of the standard design consisting of the issuing authority "CONFEDERATIO HELVETICA", the year of issue "2021", and the denomination of "20 FR", all arranged in a circular pattern.

The specifications of this Coin are:
