1169) Did You Know Series (47): "Tatty Teddy" - "Me to You" Bears: Isle of Man Post Office is marketing a special edition of 200 Bears dressed as Santa along-with  Tatty Teddy's own stamp and special envelope post-marked "21.11.2019":

I must confess that I had never heard of Tatty Teddy, until I received a newsletter from the Isle of Man Post Office about a Stamp which accompanies these cuddly Teddies.

"Me to You Bears" (also known as "Tatty Teddies) is a brand name of a collection of teddy bears made by Carte Blanche Greetings Ltd.

The evolution of "Tatty Teddies":

In 1987, the Group commenced creating various cartoon animals called the - "Miranda Gang" which included a brown bear with patches. The toys were first available in the UK only.

In 1995, the bear was drawn in charcoal pencil and its colour changed from brown to grey and with the addition of a bright blue nose and a few more patches a "story" began to develop around "Tatty Teddy" and "Me to You".

The first generation of Tatty Teddy soft toys was made in 2000, besed on an original greeting card design of 1995 - consisting of a teddy bear with short grey fur, small eyes, an off-white snout and a blue nose with a white reflective spot on the right hand side. They also had patches of a light grey colour which appear to have been sewn on them, along-with stitching repair work on the arms and head - hence the name "Tatty". The words "Me to You" were embroidered on the right rear paw.

The second generation teddies were introduced in 2003, with a story describing how the Teddy came into its current state.

In 2008, an edition of toys called "My Blue Nose Friends" was introduced in the same style as Tatty Teddy - along with a story-line that Tatty Teddy was lonely and dreamy of a "wardrobe full of friends". Every year, several groups of Tatty Teddy's friends have been introduced since then, each having its own individual name like Goggles the Baboon, Webster the spider, Pearl the Poodle Scoot the Snail, Stilts the Flamingo, Whisper the Deer, Blubber the Walrus, Kashmir the Ram, Midnight the Owl, Flame the Dragon etc.

In 2011, the Company received a license to market the brand in the USA and Canada.

In 2019, seven new blue nose friends were released in 09/2019 - an elephant, hedgehog, unicorn, rabbit, mouse, cow and giraffe.

A third generation was marketed in 2009. The bears came in different sizes along with accessories like hearts, roses, T-shirts, wooly hats, scarves et al.

Later, several special edition and limited edition bears were introduced in different costumes and for events like - Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas, Scottish dresses, London Beefeaters et al.

"Me to You" is now a global brand and Tatty Teddy now appears on a wide range of "Me to You" products including greeting cards, clothing, gifts, figurines, personalised products and confectionery. Well over 75 million Tatty Teddies have been sold since 2000.
