About Typically Dutch - Bell - Jar Farms:
This year, the Typically Dutch series focuses on house types and façades that are typical for the Netherlands.
The "stolpboerderij" will be the subject of the issue published on 4 February. The square "stolpboerderij" with a pyramid-shaped roof was established in Noord-Holland in the mid-16th century.
Typical for this Dutch farmhouse type is that the entire farm - people, animals and harvest - were brought together under one roof.
The North Holland farmhouse has its barn doors at the back, whereas the West Frisian farmhouse has its doors at the front.
The "stolpboerderij" is part of the "Noordelijke Groep": an historical farmhouse type found in Noord-Holland, Friesland, Groningen and the Wadden Islands.
The Noordelijke Groep also includes, for example, the Frisian "stelpboerderij" [‘stelp farmhouse’] and the "kop-hals-rompboerderij" [‘head-neck-body farmhouse’].
All of these farmhouses are built with a "dekbalkgebint" [‘bent roof beam’] and are mainly used for livestock farming.
The Stamp:
The Sheetlet of six stamps
The 1742 farmhouse featured on the stamp is called "Broedersbouw" and is located in Zuidoostbeemster, a village in Noord-Holland. The last farmer left Broedersbouw in 2015. The farmhouse has since been converted into nine flats.
The "Typically Dutch – stolpboerderijen" stamps feature a colourful illustration of the façade of stolpboerderij Broedersbouw in Zuidoostbeemster.
The farmhouse is flanked on the side by a tree, and grass can be seen at the front. At the bottom of the stamp is a black line, which is a reference to the street level.
A sorting hook, the year (2021), country (the Netherlands) and denomination 1 are featured in a white strip underneath the black line. The rising sun can be seen to the left of the farmhouse, against a sky with streeks created by the wind.
The logo for the Typically Dutch series is printed above each stamp, with a folded Dutch banner on the left and right. The illustration returns in a larger form on the upper sheet edge. The farm has been moved to the right to create more space for the landscape on the left, with another tree and two cows. The sky takes up a larger area of the illustration than on the stamp.
