2701) A 20 Hryvnia Banknote marks the First Anniversary of Russia's invasion on Ukraine on 24.02.2022: Banknote issued by The National Bank of Ukraine (Ukraine's Central Bank): Date of Banknote issue: 24.02.2023:

The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a 20 Hryvnia Banknote to mark the first Anniversary of Ukraine's war against the Russian aggressor and the resilience of Ukrainian will against Russian atrocities.

Their heroic defence of their embattled nation has shown to the World that the nation has withstood onslaughts by the aggressor "Superpower" including killing of civilians, barrage of missiles destroying the country's infrastructure etc.

The Banknote:

The Front of the 20 Hryvnia Banknote depicts three soldiers raising the Ukrainian National Flag in a symbolic reference that the Ukrainian will to defend their country cannot be overcome by any aggressor.

The design recalls the heroic defence of Snake Island by a small border defense outpost who stood their ground when challenged and ultimately killed to a man by shelling from a Russian warship.

Snake Island was later recaptured by the Ukrainian troops, who re-raised the Ukrainian Flag on the island and still hold the small outpost.

The Back of the 20-Hryvnia Banknote features an image of two hands tied with tape, an apparent allusion to war crimes Kyiv has accused Russian forces of committing in Ukraine, particularly the massacres of civilians by retreating Russian troops, while falling back from occupied areas against determined Ukrainian attacks.

Adds Andriy Pyshnyi, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine:

"To mark the anniversary of the war, we decided to launch a commemorative banknote which will depict on a small piece of paper a year of emotions, patterns, content and iconic things," during a presentation ceremony at the Central Bank in Kyiv.

The Central Bank has worked hard since the Russian invasion on February 24 last year to keep the economy afloat and maintain stability.

Thanks to billions of dollars in foreign aid from Western partners, Ukraine's hard currency reserves have grown to nearly $30 billion, slightly higher than at the start of the war.

Ukraine has also imposed sanctions on Russian financial institutions.

The new Banknote, which contains innovative security features, will have a circulation of 300,000.

    1. The designs on both sides reflect the way in which a small country has stood up to a big bully.
